  • Overview

    Waters Corporation is currently seeking a Senior Director of Information Security (InfoSec) to join our organization.  Reporting directly to the Chief Information Officer (CIO), the Sr. Director will be a key member of the IT leadership team and will play a central role in developing Waters’ world class IT systems and information security program.  Specifically, the new Senior Director will be responsible for delivering cutting edge technology to protect Waters and partnering with the CIO to drive IT transformation. 

    Aspects of the role include but not limit to:

    • Build and lead global information security systems and tools for a 24/7 enterprise that supports the 7,000 employees of Waters world-wide in over 90 offices.
    • The ideal candidate has experience leading transformational change and has experience leading at all levels of the organization.
    • The incumbent will need to serve in four different functions of the role: security technologist, the security operations leader, a strategist and finally an advisor.
    • Develop information security standards, policies, and procedures, as well as evaluate and recommend hardware and software to provide the appropriate level of protection for data, software and hardware
    • Global responsibility for Information Security including Strategy, Planning, Architecture, Service Delivery & Operations worldwide 
    • Digital Transformation including Global Cloud Services Transition

    Desired Outcomes:

    • Build a global & world class Information Security organization
    • Develop a comprehensive strategy and executable roadmap to evolve the information security of Waters, integrating leading edge technologies and approaches.


    • Set clear direction and lead the transformation of Waters towards progressive data management and information security.
    • Lead product/application security; work closely with engineering and architecture leadership
    • Development, implementation and monitoring of enterprise-wide initiatives that reduce information security risk.
    • Identifying security trends and evolving technologies
    • Reporting information security risks in a manner that meets compliance and regulatory requirements (SOX, HIPAA, FERPA, CIPPA, EU Data Protection)
    • Collaborating closely with product software development, IT, legal, audit, and compliance teams to achieve the organizations’ compliance with security and data privacy laws
    • The cataloguing of data types, locations and access credentials across the organization’s platforms and products
    • Communicating effectively with senior leadership and legal counsel about information security issues
    • Tracking violations of privacy and security
    • Ensure disaster recovery plans are operational for all externally hosted applications
    • Proactively manage Waters’ vendor resources to work through events / problems that occur within the Waters computing environment in order to minimize end-user impact; appropriately draft and distribute communications to the IT team and affected end-users
    • Author, own and communicate IT security policies for Waters globally



    • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, information systems, business administration or related field, or equivalent work experience
    • 10+ years of experience with technology solutions through highly integrated enterprise, with at least 8 years of experience leading organizations.
    • Experience with enabling and advising software development/product organizations in the creation of new platforms.
    • A strong understanding and experience with SaaS products, ecosystems and platforms as well as experience with developing and a migrating products to become SaaS.
    • CISSP, CISM, CISA, CEH certifications preferred
    • Track record of innovation and repeatable experience transforming technology environments through the implementation of new and innovative technologies.
    • Life sciences industry or regulated environment experience. Direct pharmaceutical experience is ideal with experience in biotechnology and medical technology also desirable. Experience outside of life sciences will be considered for certain highly qualified candidates, particularly in managing technology operations in a regulated environment.
    • Demonstrated experience leading cyber threat operations teams in the areas of emerging threat identification, incident response, and developing innovative mitigation strategies as well as demonstrated experience in the quantification and measurement of information security risks
    • Business acumen, ability to partner and have conversations with customers
    • Experience with large-scale IT integration efforts, public-facing technology mergers and acquisitions and the ability to establish, communicate and maintain technology standards across Waters’ business segments
    • Capable of executing short-term (tactical) and long term (strategic) plans
    • Significant experience contributing to a senior management team - this assumes participation in strategic and business planning, product strategy, operations, sales, marketing, and overall business direction
    • Experience and understanding of the Bio/Life Science industry and drug development process, a plus
    • High level of financial literacy oversight in order to effectively manage technology, expenses and capital spending, producing cost analysis that considers the costs and benefits, not only in the technology areas, but also in the user business areas
