  • Overview

    Waters Corporation is currently seeking a Senior Systems Engineer.  In this newly created position, the Senior Systems Engineer will join the Systems Development Group and report into the Systems Engineering Manager.  This role will be responsible for bringing together various technologies including chemistry, informatics, thermal and fluidics, mechanical, electrical and software design as Waters works towards innovation of our next-generation flagship products. 


    • The Senior Systems Engineer will be responsible for system design and definition at a technical level while working with key stakeholders to ensure that the system meets that definition. 
    • Collaborate with product owners in understanding System context.
    • Collaborate with/support product owners in developing a user requirements document.
    • Develop, and work in partnership with other stakeholders to implement, the system integration strategy such that key attributes are risk managed and that project timelines are met.
    • Collaborate with SMEs and Engineering in generating an understanding of system functionalities to meet user requirements.
    • Requirements Document and sub-system requirements document.
    • Collaborate with SMEs and Engineering in developing System 
    • Create system verification documents to provide test evidence that System design requirements have been met.
    • Collaborate with Engineering to generate a System design/architecture to ensure various sub-systems work together. Accountable for managing interfaces between various sub-systems.
    • Contribute to design reviews, FMEAs, phase reviews, System cost model, and other project related activity as appropriate.
    • Participate in the development of Systems Engineering tools (Example:SysML, FFDs) and practices. Mentor Engineering team members in these tools when applicable.


    • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry or a related subject.
    • Minimum of 5 years of systems engineering experience.
    • Good written and verbal communication skills.
    • Experience in working in a multi-disciplinary engineering team environment.
    • Diagnostic abilities to determine root causes and provide fault data.
    • Proven experience in the development of LC and/or MS instrumentation, or similar scientific or analytical instrumentation containing chemistry, fluids under pressure, optics, vacuum, particle optics, precision mechanics, electronics, and firmware/software.
    • Hands-on experience of LC and/or MS system and sub-assemblies preferred.
    • Ability to understand high level software and electro-mechanical architecture.
    • A technical understanding of the requirements, procedures and physical resources needed to verify sub-assemblies in system environments and complete LC/MS products.
    • Ability to work with process.
    • Ability to work in ad hoc project teams.
