Summary of Position:

The Sr. Supplier Quality Manager, who works under the direction and supervision of the Sr. Director Global Quality, leads the planning and execution of projects and activities for the facility to improve product and process quality within the supply chain. This position is responsible for leading a team of supplier quality engineers focused on improving overall supplier performance. It will also support new product introduction activities to optimize the supply chain for new product launches. They will analyze quality data, such as complaints, process non-conformances, process capability to identify and correct quality issues directly related to suppliers. The Sr. Supplier Quality Manager will also be a key resource in identifying and implementing best practices for process improvements, problem solving, and driving customer satisfaction.


This individual is responsible for managing and directing a team of supplier quality engineers. They will be responsible for leading:

  • New Supplier qualification and approval
  • Supplier change management
  • Supplier corrective action investigations
  • Supplier audits globally (routine, for cause)
  • Development of poor performing suppliers
  • Improvement activities across the supply chain

This role will also define the direction and vision for supplier management across Waters Corporation with a global mindset. They will work to align and improve communication across the various global supplier quality teams. The support to global operations will include providing daily guidance on Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs), driving quick resolution of vendor issues, and effective risk management. This position is hands-on in a fast-paced environment which interacts with multiple functions (R&D, Engineering, Test Engineering, Reliability Engineering, Regulatory, Manufacturing, and Purchasing) and sites (sister manufacturing sites and contract manufacturers) to resolve supplier quality issues.




  • Global Supplier Quality policy, process harmonization and deployment.
  • Global coordination of supplier quality engineering resources across sites located in US, Europe and Asia.
  • Engage and develop strong partnerships with all key suppliers and contract manufacturer's globally and provide necessary leadership and support.
  • Work closely with all cross functional members as well as site leadership teams and employees to drive supplier quality strategy and implementation of improvements.
  • Actively engage with colleagues, peers, employees and other leaders to ensure supplier quality initiatives are supported and implemented.
  • Lead cross functional investigation teams when supplier quality issues significantly affects business performance
  • Lead, coach, train, and sponsor detailed Root Cause Analysis activities to ensure thorough investigations are conducted and corrective actions are implemented to prevent recurrence
  • Drive resolution and identify solutions to difficult challenges while ensuring highest supplier quality and business is supported to meet customer demands.
  • Manage Supplier Corrective Action Request program to ensure timely and consistent handling of corrective actions by suppliers
  • Develop and execute a process to qualify supplier processes and parts utilizing APQP and PPAP disciplines
  • Champion Df(x) activities with supplier
  • Implement programs designed to improve supplier performance, productivity, and process validation
  • Assessment of supplier operations and process controls, verification and validation activities, to determine risk to Waters and then identify and implement risk mitigation plans to commensurate with the level of risk
  • Manage, review, and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of site supplier audit programs to increase value while mitigating risk to the business
  • Lead supplier audit activities including geographic leverage of resources and provide support as appropriate
  • Manage qualification of supplier changes and coordinates associated change control activities with the supply base
  • Participate in New Product Develop project teams associated with sourcing activities and improvements
  • Manage, evaluate and develop team of employees to meet functional deliverables and responsibilities
  • Is responsible for assuring compliance of the Supplier Quality system with current national and regional regulations and communicating status to management on a periodic basis for commensurate activities

  • Qualified individual should have a Bachelors Degree in Science, Engineering, Business, Mathematics, or technical field with emphasis on statistical skills.  Advanced degree preferred.


  • Minimum 10 years of supplier quality experience
  • Minimum 5 years of direct management experience leading an organization of more than 10 employees
  • Working experience with supplier management from initial qualification through all maintenance activities. (qualification, investigations, auditing, etc.)
  • Working Experience within an Regulated Environment
    • TS16969 or AS9100 preferred
    • 21 CFR part 820, 211, ISO13485, or other Quality Systems will also be considered
  • Working Experience leading and performing Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), Risk Management, Capability Analysis, New Product Development, Root Cause analysis and Issue recurrence prevention, and Gage R&R studies
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time including international travel
  • Superior leadership, interpersonal, facilitation, and communication skills
  • Demonstrated leader of change and continuous improvement methodologies
  • Ability to build solids working relationships with various functional groups and sites that allow the continues development of the quality message throughout Waters leading to improved product quality
  • Exposure to process and/or software validation methods
  • Ability to work independently across multiple organizations
  • Must be a strong team player and individual contributor
  • Good report writing and reviewing skills
