Senior Director Product Development - Single Cell - US Milpitas CA

The Senior Director, Product Development, Single Cell will lead Product Development, Applications, Bioinformatics, and Technology Development for the Waters Biosciences Single Cell Segment. Reporting to the Vice President and General Manager, Single Cell, this leader will oversee the BD Rhapsody portfolio and the development of differentiated single-cell and multi-omics products, workflows, and services.

The successful candidate will combine scientific and product development expertise with strong customer orientation and multidisciplinary team leadership. The role will also advance assay development, hardware, bioinformatics, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and foundation models as critical components of the Single Cell portfolio and customer experience.

• Lead the Product Development, Applications, Bioinformatics, and Technology Development teams for the Single Cell Segment.
• Provide product development leadership for the BD Rhapsody portfolio, including instruments, reagents, assays, software, bioinformatics, applications, and integrated workflows.
• Define and execute portfolio development priorities and deliver product roadmap aligned with the segment strategy, customer needs, and product roadmap.
• Lead new products, workflows, and services from concept through commercialization in partnership with Research, Quality, Regulatory, Operations, Marketing, and Commercial teams.
• Advance the bioinformatics strategy for single-cell data processing, analysis, visualization, interpretation, and integration across multiple data modalities.
• Develop and apply AI, machine learning, and foundation models to improve single-cell analysis, cell characterization, biomarker discovery, and biological interpretation.
• Evaluate external technologies, data partnerships, and scientific collaborations that strengthen the portfolio and accelerate innovation.
• Lead the in-house services program, including service offerings, workflow development, capacity, quality, turnaround time, and customer experience.
• Use customer and service-program insights to validate new workflows and translate repeatable solutions into scalable products.
• Build relationships with customers, key opinion leaders, collaborators, and technology partners across single-cell analysis, multi-omics, bioinformatics, and AI.
• Establish disciplined development processes, technical reviews, design controls, risk management, and stage-gate governance.
• Manage portfolio priorities, budgets, headcount, infrastructure, and resource allocation to enable predictable delivery.
• Build and retain a high-performing multidisciplinary team while fostering innovation, collaboration, inclusion, customer focus, and accountability.
• Serve as a member of the Single Cell Segment Leadership Team, contributing to business strategy, portfolio investments, and operational priorities.

• Strategic product development leader with a track record of commercializing single-cell, multi-omics, genomics, or related life science solutions.
• Deep expertise in NGS and molecular biology workflows, including library preparation, PCR, and nucleic acid analysis.
• Strong understanding of bioinformatics, computational biology, and the analysis and interpretation of high-dimensional single-cell data.
• Experience applying AI, machine learning, or foundation models to biological data and scientific workflows.
• Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams spanning instruments, reagents, assays, software, bioinformatics, applications, and services.
• Experience managing an in-house scientific services, applications laboratory, or customer sample-processing program.
• Customer-focused leader who translates scientific, market, and workflow insights into differentiated products and solutions.
• Strong strategic thinking, communication, change leadership, and talent development capabilities.
• 10–15 years of progressively responsible experience in the life sciences industry, including product development and people leadership.
• PhD in molecular biology, genomics, bioengineering, bioinformatics, computational biology, or a related life science discipline is required.
• Must be able to work onsite  - Milpitas CA
