Overview

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Principal DBA to lead the design, implementation, and management of our Oracle database environments. This role is responsible for ensuring optimal performance, availability, and security of mission-critical Oracle databases across the enterprise. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise, leadership capabilities, and a proactive approach to database architecture and operations.

Responsibilities

  • Database Architecture & Design
    • Lead the design and implementation of scalable, secure, and highly available Oracle database solutions.
    • Define and enforce database standards, policies, and procedures.
    • Collaborate with application and infrastructure teams to align database architecture with business needs.
  • Performance Tuning & Optimization
    • Monitor and optimize database performance, including SQL tuning, indexing strategies, and resource utilization.
    • Use of tools like AWR, ADDM, and OEM for diagnostics
  • Security & Compliance
    • Implement and maintain database security controls including user access, encryption, and auditing.
    • Ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations (e.g., SOX, GDPR).
  • Operations & Maintenance
    • Oversee backup and recovery strategies using RMAN and Data Guard.
    • Manage Oracle RAC, ASM, and Exadata environments.
    • Lead troubleshooting and resolution of complex database issues.
  • Automation & Innovation
    • Drive automation of routine DBA tasks using tools like Oracle Enterprise Manager, Ansible, or custom scripts.
    • Evaluate and implement new Oracle features and technologies (e.g., Oracle Autonomous Database, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure).
  • Leadership & Mentorship
    • Represent the DBA team in cross-functional projects and strategic initiatives.

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in Oracle database administration, with at least 3 years in a senior or principal role.
  • Expert-level knowledge of Oracle 12c/19c/21c, RAC, ASM, Data Guard, and RMAN.
  • Experience with Oracle code application development framework( APEX, ORDS ) is a plus
  • Experience with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) and Autonomous Database is a plus.
  • Cloud experience with database infrastructure in AWS is desired - MongoDB, Neptune, RedShift is a plus
  • Strong scripting skills (e.g., PL/SQL, Shell, Python).
  • Development skills (C++, C# preferred)
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Preferred Certifications:

  • Oracle Certified Master (OCM) or Oracle Certified Professional (OCP)
  • OCI Architect or DBA certifications
