Overview

This is a unique chance for an enthusiastic scientist to join a laboratory-based development team that is working on chromatographic and mass spectrometric tools for the analysis of gene therapy drug products including oligonucleotide, nucleic acid based medicines and viral vectors. New analytical tools are needed to characterize, quantify, and test these drug products, and we are looking for a motivated individual that will  help serve that need.

  • Take on this exciting future with a nurturing support system and mentorship from academically and industry-trained leaders.  This scientist will join a team with expertise in analytical sciences, material science, and engineering. In this role, scientists will develop strong expertise in various LC-UV-MS assays, new chromatography column developments, sample preparation devices, affinity enrichment, reagents, and their potential combinations.
  • Will have a strong support system to be able to accomplish important experiments and projects, such as aiding the development of novel chromatography columns, reagents as well as mass spectrometry methods involving large nucleic acid molecules, establishing, and transferring new quality control batch test procedures.
  • Help bring new technologies to the cell and gene therapy industry including charge detection mass spectrometry to characterize large intact molecules and thereby help address problems that impact human health and society. This position offers an excellent opportunity to grow professionally and scientifically, and it gives a one-of-a-kind opportunity to work in an interdisciplinary environment with a diverse group of colleagues.
  • Integral part of an interdisciplinary Research and Development team that supports hypothesis driven prototype evaluation, method development, and product commercialization.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in hypothesis-driven experimentation to test and better understand state-of-the-art reagents, LC column technologies and novel mass spectrometry methods along with their role in the analysis of gene therapy products especially large nucleic acids and viral vectors
  • Execute test methods under general supervision and contribute to the preparation of reports and assisting with internal presentations to summarize scientific findings.
  • Contribute to technical reports, QC & SOP procedures, literature and/or patent applications
  • Help maintain laboratory instruments while creating and maintaining records of test-related activities
  • Support products and customers during and after release
  • Proactively learn about the biotechnology industry and emerging analysis methods through literature, conferences, and exchanges with customers and collaborators

Qualifications

A successful candidate should have:

  • A PhD Degree in Bio Analytical Chemistry or Biochemistry or Chemistry with 0-3 years of focus on Bioanalytical chemistry involving LC-UV-MS methodologies
  • Experience in liquid chromatography including techniques involving large molecules, affinity, IP-RPLC and HILIC separations of oligonucleotides and nucleic acids
  • Must have experience in mass spectrometry techniques including analysis of intact biomolecules and MS-based fragmentation techniques
  • Experience in use of LC techniques for drug substance/product testing (desired)
  • Strong chemical understanding of nucleic acids and other biomolecules
  • Demonstration of impactful contributions to multiple scientific projects
  • Experience with laboratory notebook documentation as well as reagent and buffer preparation
  • Creativity and a keen interest in science
  • Strengths in interpersonal skills, collaborations, willing to give presentations, and writing
